BRIDGEPORT ART TRAIL WEEKEND
Daniel Recinos “Respect The Passion”
Local musician and visual artist Daniel Recinos documents 6 Bridgeport visual artists of #100 Shots, a group of peers who network, collaborate and support their collective and individual creative, professional and personal growth. This documentary presents a resilient group of artists working individually and together, generating a shared energy that spurs them to seek out opportunities to create and make beauty from the mundane. Through interview and videography Recinos captures a behind-the-lens view of their process and perception of the world through their commercial and private works.
#100 Shots Photography and Video pop-up at 1103 Main St.
A collaborative group of local visual artists transform a raw storefront space in into a chic, minimal photography and video pop-up. #100 Shots present portrait, landscape, street and abstract along with video screenings and installation by Yves Wilson, showcasing their perception of the world through art. The deep space configuration of the storefront location provides a gritty warehouse/ working space atmosphere for screening videos and stoking the viewer’s imagination.

ABOUT BOOBs
A provocative exhibit depicts personal stories of breast cancer patients, their caregivers and healthcare providers along with statements about the socio-economic conditions regarding treatment, healthcare, appearance, gender, age and race. Above image, “BOOB Tube” by Sooo-z Mastropietro.
Exhibiting artists include: Faith Baum and Lori Petchers, Robin Jopp, Karen Kalkstein, kHyal™, Iyaba Ibo Mandingo, Sooo-z Mastropietro, Tori Marsh, Lee Walther, Jahmane West and Francesca Winfield. Under the direction of Gaye Hyre of ArtBra New Haven local participants shared their time and creativity to make artful bra constructions on view, to support breast cancer patients. Help us hold an ArtBra Party, to raise funds for medical costs for breast cancer patients. Contact us at: clgallerybpt@gmail.com, 203.334.7748. See more about ArtBra below. |

Featured art:
Sooo-z Mastropietro presents a new work called BOOB-Tube, (see deatil) created specifically for this exhibit. Also on view is her tryptich called “Hue-ation” depicting the rapid mutation of the Hela cells taken from the cancerous biopsy of Henrietta Lacks. Mastropietro is an accomplished artist and musician. She also trained and worked as a surgical technician. She melds this knowledge and her insight as a woman and mother- (who breast-fed her children) with a whimsical art material of thick fiber tubes creating intriguing works in a soft, material that comforts while encouraging the viewer to consider the serious condition of cancer.
kHyal™ A/K/A MEGAGLAM: “Apparel as art” is how the artist, writer, designer, marketing executive and entrepreneur describes her “MegaGlam Breast Augmentation Trench” which debuted at the 2016 edition of Art Basel Miami.
Lori Petchers and Faith Baum have complied a series of photographs called The OLD BAGS project. Brave women “of a certain age,” pose in their bra and skivvies with shopping bags over their heads. Images starkly express the sense of vulnerability and loss caused by the lack of recognition, decline of ‘sex appeal’ and a sense of anonymity via ostracism. The ’portraits’ present empowering images of hope by publicly exposing the feminine aging body for what is and becomes, breaking the prototype for the standard of feminine beauty and fashion.
Gaye Hyre is Executive Director of ArtBra New Haven, a community of breast cancer survivors, their supporters, and fine artists of the greater New Haven region. We collaborate to provide a creative emotional outlet for all survivors, and direct financial support for prescribed medical treatment for under and uninsured patients. Participants create both wearable and non-wearable art which is auctioned at our annual live runway event, modeled by survivors and supporters. |
|
|
Gaye and ArtBra participants will mount an outdoor installation for the weekend of the Bridgeport Art Trail, November 9-12

ArtBra Installation: The 7 Stages of Woman, and Laundry Day, on the Golden Hill St Steps.
Shakespeare speaks of “The Seven Ages of Man”, from infant to youth, to maturity, through to old age. ArtBra New Haven and City Lights present “The Seven Ages of Woman” as seen through an interpretation of undergarments. From infancy in a ‘onesie’ and our first training bra, to blossoming youth and defining ourselves through our sense of sexuality, to nursing bras, warrior queens, maturity, the dreaded possibility of needing a mastectomy bra, to larger and more supportive garments in our later years, the Laundry Line of Life displays it all.
Join us at City Lights and the Golden Hill St steps to pin your art bra contribution on the line, or pin up a message of support, hope, honor, resilience, strength, and/or remembrance. Cloth and markers for writing massages, and clothes pins for hanging them will be available. Donations to the medical fund gratefully accepted.
Gaye Hyre says, “We’re all in this together, so don’t worry about airing your laundry in public. ArtBras will be on view at locations throughout the art trail.” |

SPECIAL EVENT: Mysterious Bridgeport!
Wicked Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Bridgeport
Thursday, October 26th and Friday October 27th
6:30pm
The Barnum Museum
820 Main Street
Bridgeport, CT 06604 |
|
Join The Barnum Museum for a fascinating—and slightly macabre—Wicked Walk lantern stroll of historic downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut, led by author-historian-lecturer Michael Bielawa. October provides the perfect time to visit scenes of suspected hauntings, Victorian-era murders, and unexplained phenomena. Remarkably, these mysteries and mysterious sites are centrally located and within easy walking distance. Join Mr. Bielawa for a one-hour tour, as he sheds light on some of New England’s strangest and eeriest tales!
The evening tours will be offered on two dates: Thursday, October 26, and Friday, October 27, 2017 at 6:30pm. Tickets should be purchased at least a day in advance; group size is limited, so early reservations are suggested. Tickets are $5 per person for Barnum Museum members, and $15 for others. Please note that this program is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
The program begins in the People’s United Bank Gallery located at the rear of The Barnum Museum, 820 Main Street in Bridgeport. Please plan to arrive at 6:30 pm, so that the tour can leave by 6:45 pm. Bring a camera if you wish, as the author encourages participants to take photographs in order to help document the area’s paranormal activity. Participants may return to the museum after the walk for cider and refreshments. Mr. Bielawa will also sign copies of his books.
Michael Bielawa is versed in the paranormal. He continually studies, and uncovers, haunting tales of southern New England’s shadowy past. These tales are based on fact, and have been documented through research at regional libraries, historical societies, through old documents, and personal interviews. Mr. Bielawa is the author of the award-winning books, Wicked Bridgeport and Wicked New Haven. His essays on the supernatural have appeared in FATE Magazine and Fortean Times. Mr. Bielawa has appeared on WTNH Channel 8’s Connecticut Style and Good Morning Connecticut segments and on WPLR, WICC, NPR, WABC-AM as well as various other programs.
Please call (203) 331-1104 ext. 100 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, if you have any questions.

VISUAL ART: Joe Zucker: SCROLLS
Burt Chernow Galleries, Housatonic Museum of Art |
|
Housatonic Museum of Art is pleased to present SCROLLS, paintings by JOE ZUCKER, on view in the Burt Chernow Galleries at the Housatonic Museum of Art September 7 through October 15, 2017.
The exhibit features unique, double-sided paintings exploring the legends and lore of pirates. Images of cannon balls, sailing frigates, oceans, islands and the iconic Jolly Roger flag with skull and crossbones share the spotlight only with the materials themselves. Scrolls of varying sizes, evoke impressions of commerce raiders, seaborne warriors, and adventurers in search of booty.
“With inspired ingenuity, Joe Zucker has once again intertwined history, subject matter and the physical materials of his work,” said Robbin Zella, Director of the Housatonic Museum of Art, “to create an inventive iconography that aptly captures the swashbuckling energy of these infamous buccaneers.”
