“Having the event at the Bijou theatre is outrageous because of the movie screen. This November’s PechaKucha going to be an opportunity to hear more in-depth stories about the artists that are in the Bridgeport Art Trail and greater community”.
-Nina Lesiga, PechaKucha Bridgeport
“The whole beauty of the PechaKucha is that it networks people in different ways.Everybody can do a PechaKucha. That’s what I love about it “.
-Bill Derry, PechaKucha Bridgeport

“We have some new artists as well as current artists, they’re all excited about activating different ideas. I’ve seen a shift over the years beyond a local audience. We find now that we consistently get people from NYC, lower Fairfield County, and Westchester. We’ve seen it expand and the reputation grows every year, it gets bigger and bigger. We’re drawing more people and enhancing the cultural reputation of Bridgeport”.

“There will be a vaudeville show at the Bijou Theatre Sunday featuring multiple drag queens, live musicians, we mix it up! I think the Bridgeport Art Trail is phenomenal in the way that our city comes together and opens the doors to highlight the Bridgeport art scene and bring visibility to this community” .

BARNUM: An American Life
Book Talk and Signing with the Author, Robert Wilson
Sunday, September 22, 2019
Event Time: 2:00 PM
The Barnum Museum
|
|
|
Barnum’s legacy is still relevant in today’s era when the lines between politics and show biz grow hazier, and when the public is consumed by the beguiling nature of “scams” and con artists. While Barnum’s trickery is more light-hearted than some we’ve seen recently, BARNUM: An American Life captures the relevance of this vibrant character in today’s zeitgeist.
As seen on CBS This Morning Saturday: https://www.cbsnews.com/video/inside-the-life-of-master-showman-p-t-barnum/
About the author:
Robert Wilson is the author of Mathew Brady: Portraits of a Nation and The Explorer King, a biography of Clarence King. He is the editor of The American Scholar, a former editor of Preservation, and the founding literary editor of Civilization (all three of which won National Magazine Awards during his tenure), a former book editor and columnist for USA Today, and a former editor at The Washington Post Book World.

“Little Secret brings together the talent and chemistry of the four members of Connecticut’s powerhouse rock and roll cover band, Highfield, as a force majeure tribute to one of the most powerful singer/songwriter artists of our time: Melissa Etheridge.
Etheridge’s career started with a slingshot debut album, going double platinum and earning her first Grammy. She continued to deliver her music to the world, while countless hits and awards illuminated the path of this icon as she cemented her place among the greatest music legends of our generation. Little Secret is proud to honor that legacy with all the passion and power, groove and energy, soul and dynamics that earned Melissa her legion of fans around the world.
In addition to some of the most beloved Etheridge songs, Little Secret also pays tribute to those that influenced and helped her forge her own style. Janis Joplin, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Pat Benetar and others have helped shape the sound and feel of her music, just as they do a Little Secret performance.”

GBS opens its 2019-20 season on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at The Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport, as Eric Jacobsen welcomes members of the Silkroad Ensemble for “Look to the East” – a concert combining an iconic Russian masterpiece (Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto) with Persian music from a modern master (Kayhan Kahlor’s Blue as the Turquoise Night of Neyshabur). “In times like these,” says conductor Jacobsen, “when political tensions are running high, Kayhan’s music is a bridge to one of the most ancient cultures on the planet. Through music, we can discover that differences between people are not monolithic.” Indeed, Kalhor’s piece brings together the exotic sounds of the East with sumptuous orchestration.
