Thank you to all partners, supporters and participants

The SameSex exhibit and Variety show features 20 regional and national artists presenting art regarding LGBTQ issues. Inclusion, respect, solidarity and growing community have always been the intentions of this event. Every year one theme organically emerges as predominate. From the review of submissions and planning for this year’s event, the predominate theme is the necessity to grow community. It is evident through the number of featured artists who have exhibited in past years and the growing level of collaboration from our partners.

City Lights realized to grow capacity we needed to reach out for increased support, collaboration and outreach. Community partners enthusiastically committed to work with us in word and action. Along with a financial contribution, our lead sponsor, the Triangle Community Center welcomed City Lights to promote our Bridgeport Pride event at their annual Pride in the Park celebration that takes place annually in June in Norwalk.

ABOUT THE TRIANGLE COMMUNITY CENTER

“Art has been a mainstay within the LGBTQ community for decades. When a group of people are marginalized, often their voices are blocked from popular media. LGBTQ people are often told that their style of expression is unacceptable. Art was a way for LGBTQ people to have a voice and not only share that within their own communities but with the world, at large. Art has also been a tool of resistance. During the AIDS epidemic, groups like ACT UP used guerilla street theater to incite people to take action.”
-Katelyn Owens, Program Coordinator, Triangle Community Center

Triangle Community Center is Fairfield County’s leading provider of programming and resources to nurture growth and connection within the LGBTQ community.

TCC is the only organization focused exclusively on the LGBTQ community in Fairfield County. TCC has existed for 27 years and until 2013 operated without full-time staff. TCC offers programs, services and events that provide critical and in some cases life-saving resources and assistance to the LGBTQ community in Fairfield County.

The Ballpark at Harbor Yard

The kick off event to set the summer alive is finally here!! I Luv BPT and the City of Bridgeport presents the opening night for Downtown Thursdays at The Ballpark at Harboryard Arena!

Performing live Funk Salsa Urban, Son 7 & Judy Gonzalez

Funk Salsa Urban.
New York based Latin band Funk Salsa Urban (F.S.U) are making their official debut into the music scene with their first single “Amazing”. Inspired by 90’s Latin group DLG, Funk Salsa Urban is fusing the basic Salsa rhythms with elements of Funk & Urban to create an inner city new sound. Between fusing the different types of rhythms they are also using Spanglish lyrics to cater to a broader audience. “Latinos born in the US speak both languages simultaneously, so why not mirror that in our songs”. http://www.fsumusic.com/

Son 7
Son 7 knows how to make an impression. This eight-piece band can take you back to the days of Hector Lavoe and bring you forward to the sounds of Coldplay with their unique salsa rendition of Clocks. Their wonderful combination of Latin Rock and Salsa can get heads turning and bodies moving.

Judy Gonzalez
A local Bachata singer with a passion for music that shines bright through her powerful voice and lyrics.

DJ Double L

VISUAL ART: Housatonic Museum of Art Presents Sherri Wolfgang: SOLO
June 1 – July 31, 2017
Burt Chernow Galleries
Housatonic Museum of Art

Wolfgang’s life-size oil paintings will feature two complete series: NICK.E.LO.DE.ON (above) celebrates the wonders of the human form and expression, and is exhibited in its entirety for the first time. TWISTED, a series of nudes that explore society’s fascination with cosmetic surgery as well as its effects on both the mind and the body.

Painter Sherri Wolfgang is known for her figurative works which utilize Renaissance painting traditions in combination with painting techniques developed by the Dutch Masters.

Historically, Wolfgang portrayed her nude figures as examinations of the various female archetypes found in visual culture, with a caricatured sexuality and affected emotions. She applies different subject matter and genres that she has passionately embraced, such as anatomy and figure drawing, Expressionism, and portraiture with the interplay of light, color, and texture.

All of her recent work has been done with a wide variety of media, including charcoal, Conte’ crayon, graphite, oil and resins on canvas, paper, and wood. This series includes portraits of a male dancer using 16th Century Mannerist aesthetics, while her upcoming series will combine Renaissance sensibilities with contemporary cultural figures.
