WORKING LARGE

ARTIST OF THE MONTH FEATURE
CARLOS DAVILA
RICK SHAEFER

This month we have a themed Artist of the Month feature “Working Large”.

“Working Large” highlights the recent large-scale installations of two Nest Arts Factory artists: Carlos Davila and Rick Shaefer.

Davila’s Titanosaurus sculpture measures 12′ high, 16′ long, and 7′ wide, and it weighs approximately 480 lbs. It is on display in a public park in Suwanee, Georgia for a two-year exhibit called SculpTour, which opens May 20 this year and runs through April 2019.

Schafer’s drawing of the American Bison, an 8′ x 12′ triptych was purchased by the State Department for their Art in Embassies Program. It is now installed in the new embassy in Chad, Africa as a potent symbol of our American history.  He hopes his work adds to the dialogue about saving endangered species.

CONCERTS: Downtown Cabaret Theatre
Saturday, June 10th and June 17th

Barbara and Frank – The Concert that Never Was
June 10 – June 10
TICKETS: $65It is unlikely that the two powerhouse voices of the century would have ever shared the same stage…until now! Two great artists paying tribute to their characters, singing the most memorable music and songs ever written. They never worked together, exactly, except when they taped a duet in separate recording sessions, but it’s tantalizing to think what it would have been like to have Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra teamed up for a concert tour. Just imagine the possibilities. Would one have outshone the other? Would their on stage banter have been friendly or a bit snippy? The rapport of these two 20th century icons is immediately prevalent. What’s On magazine states, “As good as the music is, the banter between the stars is equally memorable.” “A Match Made In Las Vegas!”Dancing Dream – ABBA*
June 17 – June 17
TICKETS: $45

The DANCING DREAM tribute band is one of the best ABBA Tributes since ABBA itself. Formerly known as the ABBA GIRLZ, this New York City-based ABBA Tribute Band features beautiful harmonies, elaborate costumes and exciting choreography guaranteed to captivate all audiences, making every show a night to remember. Always very well organized from start to finish, they have been entertaining crowds all over North America since 2009. The secret to their success is great musicianship, energetic personalities and a genuine love for what they do. This shows with each performance. Their charisma electrifies audiences of all ages.

Wolfgang’s life-size oil paintings will feature two complete series: NICK.E.LO.DE.ON (above) celebrates the wonders of the human form and expression, and is exhibited in its entirety for the first time. TWISTED, a series of nudes that explore society’s fascination with cosmetic surgery as well as its effects on both the mind and the body.

Painter Sherri Wolfgang is known for her figurative works which utilize Renaissance painting traditions in combination with painting techniques developed by the Dutch Masters.

Historically, Wolfgang portrayed her nude figures as examinations of the various female archetypes found in visual culture, with a caricatured sexuality and affected emotions. She applies different subject matter and genres that she has passionately embraced, such as anatomy and figure drawing, Expressionism, and portraiture with the interplay of light, color, and texture.

All of her recent work has been done with a wide variety of media, including charcoal, Conte’ crayon, graphite, oil and resins on canvas, paper, and wood. This series includes portraits of a male dancer using 16th Century Mannerist aesthetics, while her upcoming series will combine Renaissance sensibilities with contemporary cultural figures.
